DESCRIPTION
Berg Lighting Design offers a full spectrum of lighting consulting
services to enhance architecture, landscape and fine art.
Jeffrey T. Berg, AIA, LC brings over
28 years of experience designing lighting to complement institutional,
commercial and residential interiors as well as building
facades and landscapes. Formerly
a principal of Berg/Howland Associates, he has directed daylighting
analysis and design, including physical model testing, computer
modeling, and LEED credit documentation; custom fixture design
and documentation; landscape lighting, with LEED credit documentation;
and illuminating of exhibits and public artwork.
Among the many projects Mr. Berg has
completed are lighting design for renovated and new case
study classrooms for the advanced management program at Harvard
Business School; consulting on illuminating a major renovation
of the Bank of Boston (now Bank of America) headquarters
lobby and plaza; design of exhibit lighting for three acres
of horticultural displays at Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain,
GA; consulting on new courthouses for the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts in Lawrence and Boston, including assisting
in design of custom fixtures for courtrooms; and designing
lighting to meet modern needs, inside and out, at the historic
Woburn Library, Woburn, MA, a National Historic Landmark. Jeff Berg’s
lighting design work has received awards from the Illuminating
Engineering Society, the Designers' Lighting Forum, the International
Association of Lighting Designers, and the US Department
of Energy.

on a team or directly with an owner, the firm offers
the flexibility and responsiveness of personal service.
Working with architects, landscape architects, artists
and owners, BLD develops lighting strategies that reinforce

Jeffrey
T. Berg is a registered architect and formerly
a principal of Berg/Howland Associates Incorporated,
architects and lighting designers in Cambridge, MA. Previously
he was an associate and designer at William Lam Associates,
Inc., lighting consultants in Cambridge, MA from 1978-1983.
As a lighting consultant since 1978 he has worked on
designs for a variety of commercial, institutional and
residential projects across the United States and abroad.
Berg Lighting Design's current projects include consulting
on illuminating the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,
Cambridge, art installations at MIT and Harvard, and
an 18th century imperial lodge in Beijing for the World
Monuments Fund.
Mr. Berg was a Critic in Lighting Design
at the Yale University School of Architecture from 1987
to1998, after teaching architectural lighting at the Rhode
Island School of Design and Roger Williams College. He
organized or spoke at workshops at the Build Boston conference
from 1990 to 1999 and again in 2003.
His work has been published in Architectural
Record Lighting, Architectural Lighting, Design Times,
and the Boston Globe. He has written articles for The Interiors
Handbook for Historic Buildings, the Construction Specifier,
the Association for Preservation Technology Bulletin, and
the Harvard University Graduate School of Design News.
Mr. Berg holds the Certificate of Technical Knowledge from
the Illuminating Engineering Society, and is Lighting Certified
by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting
Professions. Berg/Howland projects have won awards from
the International Association of Lighting Designers, the
Illuminating Engineering Society, the Designers' Lighting
Forum, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
